• Christopher I Shaffrey International Travelling Fellow Award


    Award Description 

    The Section on Disorders of the Spine and Peripheral Nerves announces a $2,500 grant opportunity that can be applied toward travel to the annual spine section meeting. The Shaffrey Award will support the travel cost (air, hotel, meeting registration) for an international participant to attend the annual spine section meeting.

    This award is made possible by the Christopher I. Shaffrey Honor Your Mentor Fund through the Neurosurgery Research & Education Foundation (NREF). Dr. Shaffrey exemplifies the leadership innovative spirit that the future of neurosurgery demands.     This new research award is meant to support the travel expenses associated with attending the annual spine section meeting. The award will be fund the attendance of one international scholar annually.

    Eligibility

    • The international scholar M.D. or D.O./or recognized equivalent within two years currently enrolled and in good standing, in an accredited International Neurosurgery Program.
    • The applicant must be a member of the Joint Section on Disorders of the Spine and Peripheral Nerves. If applicants are a fellow or a resident, they must have a faculty sponsor from an accredited Neurosurgery program.
    • The successful applicant will hold their primary appointment in a Neurosurgery Department outside the United States or Canada.
