Kuntz Scholars
Kuntz Scholarships will be awarded annually by the Joint Section on Disorders of the Spine and Peripheral Nerves to the Top 20 neurosurgical residents or fellows who author outstanding abstracts detailing a laboratory or clinical investigation in the area of spinal disorders. The awards are applicable to individuals in both MD and DO training programs.
Attendance at the Annual Meeting is required to receive the award. Kuntz Scholars will present their findings during the scientific program and receive valuable feedback from expert senior discussants. Award recipients will further be honored at the Young Neurosurgeons Dinner and Reception where they will receive their award certificate and honorarium. Each recipient will receive a $500 honorarium.
A completed manuscript will need to be submitted 3 weeks prior to the Annual Meeting. All award recipients will be encouraged to submit their completed manuscripts to either the Journal of Neurosurgery: Spine or Neurosurgery for expedited review and publication consideration. (Note: Kuntz scholar manuscripts are not guaranteed publication.) Neurosurgical resident or fellow training in North America.
The J.A.N.E. award
The J.A.N.E. award is given annually to a senior neurosurgical resident or fellow in an accredited North American neurosurgical training program who has performed at an exemplary academic level: achieving top manuscript submitted to the Spine Summit annual meeting and displaying a commitment to advancement of the specialty via research and publications over the prior 12 months.
The J.A.N.E. award winner will be announced at Spine Summit 2021, held March 11-14, in Miami, FL. The winning author will deliver their oral presentation during the scientific program and be honored at the Young Neurosurgeons' dinner reception where they will receive an award certificate and a $1,500 honorarium.
Awarded manuscripts will be submitted to the Journal of Neurosurgery: Spine with the designation J.A.N.E. award recipient for expedited review and publication consideration (note: J.A.N.E. award manuscripts are not guaranteed publication) To apply for the J.A.N.E. award, applicants must submit a complete manuscript along with the related abstract in the abstract submission process. Applicants must also attach a current CV and a brief description of their research efforts including a list of publications over the prior 12 months. Senior resident or neurosurgical Fellow at accredited neurosurgical training program.
The J.A.N.E. award requires a manuscript upon submission.
